Our Story
Even though the first batch (1969) of MGIMS, Sewagram graduated in November 1973, the need of the alumni of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sewagram to maintain the link with their alma mater was fulfilled in 1982.
The alumni from different batches took the initiative and thus came into existence ‘The Alumni Association, MGIMS, Sewagram’. The inaugural ceremony was held on 28th August 1982 and was graced by our source of inspiration Dr. Sushila Nayar. Thus, the wheel of progress which started long back continues to move forward now under the dynamic leadership of Shri. Dhirubhai Mehta, President, Kasturba Health Society, Sewagram.
Alumni of any institute are proud of their alma mater and so is alma mater of its alumni. Alumni play important role in the progress of their alma mater and continue to remain its integral component. The alumni association of MGIMS started defining the role of alumni step by step. The association is a source of continuous feedback to MGIMS in its progress.
Any alumni meet is always nostalgic and charged with emotions. The MGIMS entered its silver jubilee year in September 1993. The founder batch of MGIMS i.e. the 1969 batch, had their first silver jubilee alumni get together on 25th of December, 1993 with their families. The time clock was turned back by 25 years in the campus for 1 day. The students of 69 batch tried to relive in the past, visited their rooms in the hostel, and commemorated the good old days with each other. They felicitated their teachers also. The institute also lauded the achievements of the students. Thus, started the tradition with a series of the silver jubilee alumni get together in December every year with the subsequent batches. So far 26 batches (1969-94) have had their function of silver jubilee alumni get together. Each batch celebrates 25 years of its association with the alma mater. The alumni also contribute in the development of the institute.
MGIMS entered its golden jubilee year in 2018 and again the first batch had its golden jubilee alumni get together on 5th of January 2019.
